SUBJECT:
CRYSTAL RIVER TEAM SAFETY SYSTEM FUNCTIONAL INSPECTION
(NRC INSPECTION REPORT NO. 50 302/9714)
Dear Mr. Anderson:
'
The purpose of this letter is to announce the subject inspection at your Crystal River facility.
-
We have scheduled this inspection for the weeks of September 8 - 15. October 6 - 10, and October 20 24,1997. The designated inspection team leader, William E. Holland, will make
- arrangements with your staff to telephonically discuss the inspection plans in more detail.
The inspection objective will be to assess the operational performance capability of selected safety systems through an in-depth, multi disciplinary engineering review to verify that the selected systems are capable of performing their intended safety functions. The inspection will
'
be conducted using Inspection Procedure 93801, " SAFETY SYSTEM FUNCTIONAL IN9PECTION (SSFI)," and willinvolve a team of at least five inspectors.
The t0am will require Information about the selected systems (Makeup and Purification System and Decay Heat Removal System), and other plant programs for their in-office preparation for the inspection. A description of some of the material needed is outlined in the enclosure. Our designate 1 team leader will be contacting your staff and arranging for specific material to be provided dering the pre-Inspection visit week which is scheduled for September t'- 15,1997.
Thank you for your cooperation in this matter. If you have any questions regarding this inspection, please contact me at (404) 562-4605.
