Failed Snubber on No. 11 RHR Pump CONDITIONS PRIOR TO OCCURRENCE:

Mode 1 -

Rx Power 100% - Unit Load 1130 :MW DESCRIPTION OF OCCURRENCE:

During normal operations at 1925 hours0.0223 days <br />0.535 hours <br />0.00318 weeks <br />7.324625e-4 months <br /> on February 24, 1981, the No. 11 RHR Pump was declared inoperable in order to perform Engineering Test DCR No. 1ET1153 IAW NRC Bulletin 81-01, "Surveil-lance of Mechanical Snubbers".

Action Statement 3.5.2 was entered at this time.

The snubber mounted on the top of the pump motor was found to be defective.

This occurrence constituted operation in a degraded mode IAW Technical Specification 6.9.1.9.b.

DESIGNATION OF APPARENT CAUSE OF OCCURRENCE:

The apparent cause of the snubber failure appears to be the result of internal corrosion that caused intermittent seizing of the balls in the race.

ANALYSIS OF OCCURRENCE:

Technical Specification 3.5.2 requires that with one ECCS subsystem inoperable, restore the inoperable subsystem to operable status within 72 hours8.333333e-4 days <br />0.02 hours <br />1.190476e-4 weeks <br />2.7396e-5 months <br /> or be in hot shutdown within the next 12 hours1.388889e-4 days <br />0.00333 hours <br />1.984127e-5 weeks <br />4.566e-6 months <br />.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

The defective snubber was replaced in kind with one that was tested satisfactory.
