Support for PG&Es License Extension Application for Diablo Canyon Power Plant

Dear Commissioners,

On behalf of the Santa Maria Valley Chamber, representing businesses and residents committed to economic prosperity and environmental stewardship, I am writing to urge your approval of Pacific Gas and Electrics license extension application for the Diablo Canyon Power Plant (DCPP).

DCPP is Californias largest source of clean energy, providing over 15% of the states clean energy portfolio and producing enough power for 3 million residents. Its continued operation is essential for meeting Californias clean energy goals and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The plants closure would force reliance on fossil fuels, as seen when the San Onofre facility was replaced with greenhouse gas-emitting energy sources.

Reliable and affordable energy is critical for our businesses and residents. Diablo Canyon supplies 9% of Californias electricity and ensures energy stability during peak demand. Replacing its output would require costly infrastructure investments that would increase energy costs for working families and businesses.

DCPP is also a vital economic driver for our region, providing high-paying jobs and supporting local vendors.

PG&Es stewardship of the surrounding lands and marine habitats reflects a strong commitment to environmental preservation. These efforts enhance the natural beauty of our community and support tourism and public recreation.

As California works to meet rising energy demand driven by electrification and technology, Diablo Canyons reliable, 24/7 energy is more important than ever. Shutting it down would hinder progress toward clean energy goals and strain the states power grid at a time when we need every resource available.

We strongly urge the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to approve the license extension for Diablo Canyon Power Plant. Its continued operation is vital to Californias energy future and our communitys economic and environmental well-being.

Thank you for your consideration. Please feel free to reach out if you would like additional information or to discuss further.

Sincerely, Michael Boyer President & CEO, Santa Maria Valley Chamber
