Dear Patrick Donnelly:

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff has revised the schedule for its review of Westinghouse Electric Company, LLCs (WECs) license renewal application for its Columbia Fuel Fabrication Facility in Hopkins, South Carolina. As noted in our February 18, 2022 letter (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML22033A071) conveying requests for additional information (RAI), the NRC, upon receiving complete RAI responses, has revised its licensing review schedule. Westinghouse provided the RAI responses in three submittals dated February 21, March 15 and March 21, 2022, respectively. The attached revised schedule reflects the RAIs issued in February 2022 and the State Historic Preservation Offices (SHPO) review and final approval of the cultural resources survey report conducted by WEC.

The NRC staff plans to publish the final environmental impact statement in July 2022, pending approval of the final cultural resources survey report from the SHPO and a determination that the historic properties evaluated in the report are not eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places. In August 2022, the staff plans to issue the safety evaluation report and the record of decision. These projected dates are with the understanding that WEC will provide follow-up clarification on one remaining item by May 2, 2022, and with the assumption that the SHPO review and final approval of the Cultural Resources Survey Report will happen by May 16, 2022.
