Dear Dr. Baron:

Thank you for your letter of March 3,1986 extending your offer to meet with the Chinese to discuss nuclear safety cooperation during your scheduled visit to China in July.

China has invited NRC representatives to visit there in the next few months to discuss a new five-year plan of cooperation under the NRC/NNSA Protocol to be renewed this fall. We expect to accept this invitation and therefore probably should not complicate the picture by involving you directly in related discussions in the near future. Obviously, we would welcome any feedback you may pick up from Chinese nuclear officials in regard to nuclear safety topics or our cooperation activities.
