CENTRUS ENERGY CORP. ENVIRONMENTAL REPORT ADDITIONAL INFORMATION (DOCKET NUMBER: 70-7004)
By letters dated April 22, 2020, and May 7, 2020, the American Centrifuge Operating, LLC (ACO) submitted an application to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) to amend Special Nuclear Materials (SNM) License Number SNM-2011 for the American Centrifuge Plant (ACP). Centrus Energy Corp. (Centrus), a subsidiary of ACO, submitted an amendment requesting authorization to enrich uranium to produce advanced nuclear fuel, known as High-Assay Low-Enriched Uranium (HALEU).
On November 10, 2020, the NRC staff sent via email several questions/clarifications to staff from Centrus regarding the environmental report (ADAMS Accession No. ML20139A109) for the HALEU ACP, which Centrus plans to build in Piketon, Ohio (Enclosure 1). On December 15, 2020, the NRC staff received a partial set of responses to the request (Enclosure 2). On December 16, 2020, the NRC staff held a telephone conference call with staff from Centrus to discuss the remaining questions (Enclosure 3). On December 17, 2020, January 6, 2021, and January 13, 2021, the NRC staff received the remainder of the responses (Enclosures 4, 5, and 6).
The purpose of this summary document is to consolidate the additional environmental information that was received by Centrus and evaluated and referenced by NRC in its Environmental Assessment related to the HALEU LAR.
