Dear Mrs. Bennington:
This is to inform you that the MIT Nuclear Reactor Laboratory will be shipping spent fuel from Cambridge, MA to Westinghouse - Savannah River Co. in Aiken, South Carolina using the route described in the enclosure. The fuel was used in the MIT Research Reactor and had an original enrichment of 93%.
This notification is furnished in compliance with NRC regulations of 10 CFR 73.
A description of shipment as required by the U.S. Department of Transportation in 49 CFR j 173.202 and 172.203(d)is also enclosed. Armed escorts will be provided through cities as required and states' governors' designees are being notified.
