April 28,1999 Nuclear Regulatory Commission Attn: Document Control Desk Washington, D.C. 20555 Gentlemen:

We recently received a message, which we have reproduced below, from one of the individuals who underwent Neutron Capture Therapy (NCT) at the MIT Research Reactor about a year ago. We have deleted the individual's name and other information in the message that could be used as a means of identification. This individual was treated for glioblastoma and is in our q Phase I trial. As such, no therapeutic value could be promised or was expected. Nevertheless, it i would appear that some benefit has been received. Life expectancy after diagnosis is 9-11 months with conventional therapy. This individual is alive almost a year after treatment. The individual did show some recurrence and did receive conventional therapy for that. However, we find the current situation to be encouraging. We recognize the hard work that NRC has undertaken in order to enable us to proceed with BNCT development. Accordingly, we thought you might enjoy the message as much as we have.

Sincerely, 4

To: BNCT Team I just received a note from XXX and thought I'd share part of it with you (it's a little long to reproduce entirely). Can you believe it's been almost a year since his BNCT7

" Hello Jody,  !

l How are things going in Boston? Things are going better all the time here. I am back at work and I am also getting ready to finally start my house. My fianc6 and I should be setting a date for our wedding soon. I am so excited on how well I am doing. Tell Dr. Busse and all the rest of the crew that I said Hello and that I thank them very much for the care and support they provided while I was in Boston. I love all of you. Love, XXX" i Jody (Head Research Nurse) t Q
