Subject:

Schedule for DB Cavity Growth Analyses Steve -

Richard and Paul are doing the final proofread of the report i e-mailed you last week that details their analysis of the DB cavity in the "as found" condition. I just spoke with Richard, and we are now proceeding on calculations for enlarged cavities, with the aim of finding an enlarged cavity that has a "best estimate' failure pressure of the operating pressure (2165 psi). Richard is estimating that it will take 4-6 different FE models to home in on this geometry, and anticipates completion of these analyses by the end of July.

Bill / Jim (& colleagues): (per the above) ... as it seems that we will know how big a cavity we would have needed to fail DB at operating pressure, it would be very helpful if y'all could start assembling your thoughts for how best to estimate how long it would take the cavity to grow to this dimension.

Thanks to all, Mark CC: Bass, Richard - ORNL; James Davis; Nilesh Chokshi; Wallace Norris; William Cullen; Williams, Paul - ORNL
