SUMMARY

INTRODUCTION An Inservice examination of Class 1 and 2 components and piping systems was conducted at Farley Nuclear Plant (FNP) Unit 1 during April-May 2006. The examinations were performed in accordance with the approved Examination Program Plan. The primary areas of examination included Pressurizer, Steam Generator C, Main Steam, Safety Injection and Residual Heat RemovaVChemical and Volume Control Piping and supports. The tables documenting the Class 1 and 2 vessel and piping examinations as well as component supports examined are under Tab C of this report.

The program utilized volumetric, surface and visual nondestructive testing methods in accordance with the requirements of ASME Section XI, 1989 Edition.

Selected examinations and related activities were witnessed by representatives of Southern Nuclear Operating Company and its Authorized Inspection Agency. All examinations were performed to the extent practical within geometric and physical limitations.

RESULTS Examinations were performed in accordance with the ASME Section XI Code with the recording of indications meeting the specified ASME Acceptance Standards. The results are summarized below and detailed tables are shown behind Tab C. Indications were evaluated and dispositioned by Indication Evaluation Reports (IER's). A listing of IER's is attached and the data sheets are available at FNP for review.

SUMMARY

OF INDICATIONS CLASS 1 (A) VOLUMETRIC EXAMINATIONS There were no reportable Class I Volumetric indications (B) SURFACE EXAMINATIONS There were no reportable Class 1 Surface indications.

(C) VISUAL EXAMINATIONS There were four piping supports that were acceptable per evaluation with three of those having bolting or nuts tightened and one having spring cans reset to match revised drawing settings. There were thirty bolted connections from the Class 1 pressure tests with various degrees of boron accumulation. In each case the boron was removed, any necessary corrective action was performed and either an evaluation or a re-examination found each one acceptable.

CLASS 2 (A) VOLUMETRIC EXAMINATIONS There was one Class 2 Volumetric indication consisting of a lamination in the base metal adjacent to a main steam piping weld that was acceptable per Section XI tables.

(B) SURFACE EXAM INATIONS There were no reportable Class 2 Surface indications.

(C) VISUAL EXAMINATIONS There were no reportable Class 2 Visual indications associated with piping supports.

IWEOWL EXAMINATIONS An examination of the Unit 1 Containment Building concrete was completed in February 2006 and found to be acceptable. In addition, a physical examination of the Unit I Containment Building unbounded post tensioning system was performed during February and March 2006. The tendon sample consisted of three hoop, three dome and three vertical tendons. The sheathing filler material for each tendon was sampled and showed no signs of fiee water. In addition, the chemical analysis revealed there was no chemically combined water in excess of 10% by weight in any sample. The absolute difference between the amount of filler removed and that replaced never exceeded 10% of the net duct volume.

There was no evidence of excessive grease leakage and no signs of abnormal corrosion for these tendons. Visual inspection of the containment concrete revealed no evidence of any abnormal structural degradation. A visual examination of all accessible grease caps revealed no indication of grease cap deformation. The complete inspection report is available at FNP for review.

Portions of the Unit I Containment Moisture Bamer were replaced in April 2006. As required, the Containment Liner Plate was inspected below the location where the Moisture Barrier was removed and found to be acceptable.

ADDITIONAL EXAMINATIONS Results from additional examinations which were performed during this outage are as follows:

Class 1 System Leakage Test In accordance with ASME Section XI 1989 Edition IWB-5210(a)(l), leak testing of the Class 1 Reactor Coolant System Pressure Boundary was performed prior to startup following the 20th refueling outage. The testing was completed on 05122106. A copy of the completed test procedure FNP-I-SOP- I .4 is retained by the Farley Nuclear Plant Document Control.

In addition, to meet the 1989 Section XI IWA-5242(a) requirement for removal of insulation From bolted connections in "systems borated for the purpose of controlling reactivity" the alternative examination requirements of Relief Request RR-27 was used. RR-27 allowed the insulation to be removed and the bolted connection to be examined for evidence of leakage at static conditions. If evidence of leakage affecting the bolting was apparent, the bolting was removed and examined per IWA-5250(a)(2) and Relief Request RR-41. The class I leakage test was performed and the Code requirements were satisfied.

Class 1 and 2 Hydrotesting No hydrostatic testing was performed during the 20th refueling outage to meet requirements of the current inspection interval.

Class 2 Functionalllnservice Testing Class 2 functional testing performed during the 20th refueling outage included portions of the RHR, Containment Spray, Safety Injection and Charging systems. There were eight bolted connections associated with the Class 2 pressure tests with leakage and various degrees of boron accumulation. Other packing and stem leaks were also observed. The boron accumulation was removed and either an evaluation or a re-examination found each one acceptable. Completed data sheets from FNP- I -STP- 156.1 are filed in FNP Document Control. The Class 2 functional 1 inservice tests were performed and the code requirements were satisfied.

STATUS OF EXAMINATIONS REQUIRED FOR CURRENT INTERVAL This refueling was the 2nd outage, 3rd period of the 3rd interval and the examinations completed are within ASME Code compliance.

STEAM GENERATOR EDDY-CURRENT EXAMINATION

SUMMARY

Eddy current examination of the lA, I B, and IC Model 54F Steam Generators (SG) was performed during UI R20.

The inspection scope for all three SGs was:

50% full length bobbin 20% hot leg top of tubesheet plus point 50% low row U-bend plus point Plus point of dentsidings >= 2 volts, Plus point of location of loose objects identified during U1 R 18 and U I R19 Plus point of additional tubes at locations corresponding to foreign objects identified during in-bundle visual inspection prior to ECT during this outage (U 1R20).

No indications of wear or corrosion-induced degradation were observed. No crack-like indications were identified.

No challenges to tube integrity were identified by the results of the U1R20 eddy current inspections, and no tube leakage was observed during Cycle 20 operation.

There were no tubes plugged during this inspection outage. Additionally, there are no plugged tubes in SG 1A, 18.

or 1C.

The FNP 1R20 Final Condition Monitoring and Operational Assessment (CMOA) demonstrates that the 1R20 SG eddy current inspection results provide assurance that the Unit 1 SG tube integrity will be maintained to support operation through the upcoming inspection intervals.
