Farley Nuclear Plant - Unit 1 Response to NRC Inspection Report and Preliminary White Finding

Reference:

Letter from LaDonna B. Suggs (U.S. NRC) to Keith Brown (SNC), "Joseph M.

Farley Nuclear Plant - NRC Inspection Report 05000348/2023090 and Preliminary White Finding and Apparent Violation, " dated August 31, 2023 On August 31, 2023, the NRC documented a preliminary white finding and apparent violation related to an event involving the Joseph M. Farley Nuclear Plant (FNP) Unit 1 "1B" Emergency Diesel Generator. Southern Nuclear Operating Company (SNC) acknowledges the description surrounding the event discussed in the referenced letter.

The NRC letter requested verbal and written notification within 10 days regarding SNC's intention to either request a regulatory conference or submit SNC's position on the finding in writing.

On September 7, 2023, Ryan Joyce (SNC Fleet Licensing Manager) verbally notified Alan Blarney (NRC Projects Branch 2 Chief) of SNC's decision to not contest the violation nor the significance of the finding. This letter confirms that SNC is not requesting a regulatory conference on this matter and will not be submitting a written response contesting the preliminary white finding and apparent violation. It is understood by SNC that by declining to submit a written response or to arrange a regulatory conference, the preliminary assessment of significance will become final.

There are no regulatory commitments contained in this letter. Should you have any questions regarding this matter, please contact Ryan Joyce, Fleet Licensing Manager at (205) 992-6468.

Respectfully submitted,
