SUBJECT: REPLY TO SOUTH CAROLINA ELECTRIC AND GAS COMPANY LETTER

DATED DECEMBER 20, 2016, REGARDING RESPONSE TO INSPECTION

REPORT NO. 05000395/2016007 AND NOTICE OF VIOLATION, VIRGIL C.

SUMMER NUCLEAR STATION, UNIT 1

Dear Mr. Lippard:

Thank you for your letter dated December 20, 2016, in response to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory

Commissions (NRC) letter dated November 22, 2016 (ML16327A378), transmitting a Notice of

Violation.

We have reviewed your response and find that it meets the requirements of 10 CFR 2.201 and

other instructions specified in the Notice. In your response, you documented the reason for the

violation, the corrective steps that have been taken and the results achieved, the corrective

steps that will be taken, and stated that full compliance will be achieved after the NFPA 805

License Amendment Request is approved by the NRC. The NRC has reviewed the corrective

actions, which appear to be adequate, and has no further questions at this time. The corrective

actions to address the violation will be examined during a future inspection.

This letter will be made available for public inspection and copying at

http://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/adams.html and at the NRC Public Document Room in

accordance with 10 CFR 2.390, Public Inspections, Exemptions, Requests for Withholding.
