'EPORTABLE OCCURRENCE 335-77-21 LICENSEE EVENT REPORT PAGE TWO Event Descri tion (Continued) felt that the studs were not degraded sufficiently to create any significant risk of failure. However, it was deemed prudent to replace the studs and this was done.

Specification 4.4.10.1.a requires an initial report'ithin 10 days on any abnormal degradation found during surveillance, and a detailed report within 90 days from completion of the surveillance. Since these studs were the only items surveilled, this report is intended to fulfillboth requirements. The inspection was done per Specifi-cations 4.4.10.l.a and b. and Table 4.4"6 Item 4.3. As described above, the corrosion was surface type due to boric acid attack. The deepest indication cn load bearing portions of the stud was, 1/16 inch (on a l~g inch stud). This was the first reportable occurrence of this type at St. Lucie Unit', l.

(335-77-21)

Cause Descri tion (Continued) had attacked the carbon steel studs, causing surface corrosion judged to be unacceptable.
