2. NRC e-mail to Entergy Operations, Inc., Grand Gulf Extended Power Uprate Reactor Systems Branch Request for Additional Information (ME4679), December 14, 2011

Dear Sir or Madam:

In Reference 1, Entergy submitted a license amendment request (LAR) to the NRC, which proposes an extended power uprate (EPU) for Grand Gulf Nuclear Station, Unit 1 (GGNS).

To support its review and approval of this LAR

, on October 27, 2011 the NRC staff conducted an on-site audit of the implementation of stability long

-term solutions and the impact of EPU on instability and an Anticipated Transient without Scram (ATWS) event. As a result of that audit, the NRC has requested additional information (transmitted via Reference 2) pertaining to simulator scenarios reflecting EPU operating conditions

, specifically:

1. Provide data for worst

-case ATWS long

-term scenario at EPU conditions.

Include plots, sequence of events, and initial conditions.

2. Provide data for wor st-case ATWS short

-term pressure peak scenario at EPU conditions.

Include plots, sequence of events, and initial conditions.

Entergy is currently in the process of incorporating EPU

-related system modifications and operating conditions into the GGNS simulator. Based on the current schedule, Entergy commits to provide the requested data to the NRC on or before February 15, 2012.

No change is needed to the no significant hazards consideration includ ed in the initial LAR (Reference 1) as a result of the additional information provided. This letter contains one new commitment, which is identified in the attachment
