GRAND GULF NUCLEAR STATION, UNIT 1, EXTENDED POWER UPRATE LICENSE AMENDMENT REQUEST

Dear Dr. Armijo:

During the 595th meeting of the Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards (ACRS or the Committee), June 6-8, 2012, the ACRS completed its review of the extended power uprate application for Grand Gulf Nuclear Station, Unit 1 (GGNS). The ACRS also completed a review of the associated safety evaluation report prepared by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff.

By letter dated June 18, 2012 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System Accession No. ML12163A224), the Committee provided its final report on the extended power uprate for GGNS. The NRC staff agrees with your recommendation that the agency should approve the extended power uprate for GGNS.

The NRC staff appreciates the Committees prompt and very thorough review of this extended power uprate application and associated safety evaluation report. The NRC staff recognizes the Committees commitment to safety and appreciates the continued support of the power uprate process.
