Docket No. 50-443 July 19, 1988

APPLICANT: Public Service Company of New Hampshire (PSNH)

FACILITY: Seabrook Station, Unit 1

SUBJECT: Meeting Summary

On July 9,1988, the NRC staff and its consultants from Brookhaven National

Laboratories (BNL) met with representatives of PSNH and its consultants from

Altrac Corporation to discuss cracking in the cooling tower concrete. This

concrete cracking had been reported as an open item in Inspection Report No.

50-443/87-07 and was discussed in the licensee's submittal dated April 21,

1988.

During this meeting the Altran Corporation representatives described the

analysis methods they had used to prepare the licensee's April 21, 1988

submittal. This submittal had determined that tha concrete cracking reported

in Inspection Report No. 50-443/87-07 was the result of concrete shrinkage.

After hearing and understanding a description of the analysis methods used,

the NRC staff and its BNL consultants agreed that the observed cracking was -

the result of shrinkage. NRR will provide Region I with a report of its ,'

review of this matter to enable Region I to close out their open item. '

A transcript of this meeting and an attendance list of the meeting are

enclosed. Also enclosed is a copy of the slides used at this meeting.
