SUMMARY

OF JANUARY 17, 2008, CONFERENCE CALL TO DISCUSS UPCOMING LICENSE AMENDMENT REQUEST (LAR) FOR DIGITAL UPGRADE TO THE REACTOR PROTECTIVE SYSTEM (RPS) AND ENGINEEERED SAFEGUARDS PROTECTIVE SYSTEM (ESPS) (TAC NOS.

MD2471, MD2472, AND MD2473)

On January 17, 2008, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and Duke (the licensee) conducted a conference call to discuss the upcoming LAR for a digital upgrade to RPS/ESPS at Oconee, specifically, the documents that should be docketed when the LAR is submitted.

Enclosed is a list of the conference call participants.

During the meeting that was held on December 12, 2007 (meeting summary available under Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) accession number ML073550278), the NRC staff stated that it would provide to the licensee a list of the technical documents that should be submitted on the docket along with the LAR. By e-mail dated December 21, 2007 (ML080240255), the NRC staff provided the list of documents to the licensee. The licensee inserted the documents contained in the NRCs list into a table and correlated these documents to the applicable Duke/AREVA documents. The licensee provided this table to the NRC by e-mail dated January 15, 2008 (ML080240253).

During the conference call, the NRC staff and the licensee first discussed the documents printed in bold and agreed that these documents would be provided on the docket along with the LAR. The NRC staff and the licensee agreed that the remaining documents on the list would be made available to the NRC staff, but would not have to be docketed along with the LAR. However, the NRC staff stated that some of these documents might have to be docketed at a later time if the NRC staff determined that information in these documents would be referenced in the NRC staffs safety evaluation. The licensee agreed to docket any of these documents that the NRC staff requested to be docketed.
