By Reference 1, the U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) requested IndianaMichigan Power Company (I&M), the licensee for Donald C. Cook Nuclear Plant (CNP), toprovide further information to support the NRC staff's evaluation of regulatory actions to betaken in response to lessons learned from Japan's Fukushima Dai-ichi Nuclear Power Plantaccident.
The request addressed the methods and procedures for plants to conductseismic and flooding hazards walkdowns to identify and address degraded, nonconforming, A4oo U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission AEP-NRC-2013-74 Page 2or unanalyzed conditions through the corrective action program, and to verify the adequacyof the monitoring and maintenance procedures.
By Reference 2, I&M, submitted the Seismic Walkdown Report as requested perEnclosure 3 of Reference 1, "Recommendation 2.3: Seismic" for CNP Units 1 and 2 to theNuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). Reference 3 notified I&M of the NRC staff plans toconduct a regulatory audit on July 17-19, 2013, to verify information and gain a betterunderstanding of I&M's conduct of the seismic walkdowns at CNP.Based on the results of this regulatory audit, I&M has revised CNP's Seismic WalkdownReport. Enclosure 1 to this letter provides an affirmation.
Enclosure 2 provides CNP'srevised Seismic Walkdown Report.This letter contains no new regulatory commitments.
