I spoke to John Parillo, and it seems the most efficient way may be to get as much clarity out of the way prior to the phone call to see how many questions we can remove 1

from having to discuss. Thus we may be able to remove several parties that need to be involved and ease the conflicts in the schedule.

Would it be possible for you to provide answers to the attached file? Any questions you feel are best left to discussion is fine, but ultimately all responses will be captured in a telephone summary.

You had mentioned some concerns over scheduling due to comment 4b. Garill Coles provided some feedback relating to that comment in the email chain below.

If you prefer to keep all items in the phone conversation, I'll keep going with the coordination and schedule the party as soon as the schedules allow.

John, I spoke with our Level 3 analyst, and he suggested that if the answer to the telephone 2

clarification for RAI 4.b was: "Yes", "Yes", then we didn't need any further discussion with the FENOC analyst.

Yes, from the lab point of view, closing these "clarifications" by email is an acceptable approach.

As, I mentioned on the telephone I am not available at 8:00 am on Monday, July 18th (In fact, I am not available much of that day as I will either be in route or in a session).

I am available this Friday, July 15th. I am on travel next week but can schedule to be available by telephone for most of Tuesday through Thursday afternoon, with the exception of Wednesday afternoon.

I have attached the most current version of the draft telephone clarification list (which has expanded a bit).

Garill, The licensee is not able to support a clarification call this week as a key individual needed to clarify 4b has limited availability. Can you support a call on Monday July 18th at 11:00 AM? We realize that puts you at 8:00 AM. The licensee is also open to a split meeting if we want to have a call specifically for just 4b at 11:00 AM on Monday and the remainder of the questions later on Monday afternoon.

John, I spoke with the Applicant and they won't be able to support a Thursday call.

Unfortunately we have some coordination concerns as 4b requires an Areva staff member to be on the call to fully clarify the pertinent information. The only time the Areva staff member is available is on Monday 10:00-12:00. Otherwise he will be unavailable until the following week.

Having the meeting at 11:00 puts PNNL at an 8:00 am meeting time and I saw a conflict with your schedule as well.

The applicant is also open to a split meeting if we want to have a call specifically for just 4b at 11:00 on Monday and the remainder of the questions later on Monday afternoon.

Let me know how you'd like to proceed.

Here's a draft of the phone clarifications that will provide the licensee an idea who should be on the call.

Please note that because we are still in the process of reviewing the RAI responses that this list may be subject to some modification or expansion. As you can see the list is short, and so we do not expect this to take long. However, it will be important to get FENOC's verbal response documented in a "Telephone Clarification" so that we can complete the SAMA review report (e.g., the assumptions made for each of the new SAMA benefit calculations performed in response to RAI 7a-f should be written down in the Telephone Clarification)

I just received a call from PNNL requesting that we set up a follow up phone call with Davis-Besse on the SAMA RAI responses. At this point PNNL does not expect to need a second round of RAIs but just needs some clarification on the answers provided.

Steve Short from PNNL suggested either Wednesday or Thursday of next week for a call with the licensee. Neither Jerry Dozier nor I will be available on Wednesday so Thursday would be better from our end.

Please let me know if a call can be set up. PNNL does not expect that it will be a lengthy call.
