No: 18-025 June 26, 2018 CONTACT: Office of Public Affairs, 301-415-8200 Margaret M. Doane Named NRCS Next Executive Director for Operations Margaret M. Doane, the NRCs General Counsel, has been selected by the Commission as the agencys next Executive Director for Operations. This is the agencys highest-ranking career position. Doane succeeds Victor M. McCree, who is retiring on June 30, 2018, after long and distinguished service to the NRC.

Doane joined the NRC in 1991 as a Special Assistant (Legal) in the Office of the Secretary. She subsequently served as an attorney in the Office of Commission Appellate Adjudication from 1991 to 1998. During this time, she was responsible for drafting opinions on novel issues related to the NRCs licensing and regulatory responsibilities. From 1998 to 2004, Doane served on the staff of Commissioner Jeffrey Merrifield as Legal Counsel, Deputy Chief of Staff and Chief of Staff. In 2004, she became Deputy Director and, in 2007, Director of the Office of International Programs. In that role, she led the agencys support of U.S. interests abroad in the safe and secure use of nuclear materials, including licensing exports and imports of nuclear materials and equipment. Doane was appointed as General Counsel by the Commission in 2012.

In working with Margie for the past 10 years, I have observed her professionalism, her mastery of the complex issues associated with our important safety and security mission, and her devotion to those she leads, NRC Chairman Kristine Svinicki said. These attributes will continue to guide her work as she sets about building upon the platform created by Vic and his predecessors as EDO in continuing to advance our critical work.

Prior to joining the NRC, Doane served as an attorney advisor for the Department of Veterans Affairs, Board of Veterans Appeals. She will be the first female EDO in the NRCs history. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Loyola College in Baltimore and a Juris Doctorate from the University Of Maryland School Of Law.
