No: 24-028 April 29, 2024 CONTACT: Scott Burnell, 301-415-8200 NRC Seeking Public Comment on Environmental Review of Clinton License Renewal Application The Nuclear Regulatory Commission is seeking public comment on the environmental topics the agency should consider in reviewing an application requesting an additional 20 years of operation for the Clinton reactor in Clinton, Illinois.

Constellation Energy Generation filed the application Feb. 14 to renew the license from 40 to 60 years. Clintons boiling-water reactor is licensed to operate through April 17, 2027.

NRC staff members will conduct two webinars to gather public comment. The first webinar will be May 7 from 6-8 p.m. Eastern time; the second webinar will be May 9 from 1-3 p.m. Eastern time. During both webinars the staff will describe the environmental review process and accept comments from the public about the potential scope of that review.

The webinars, as outlined in a Federal Register notice, are one method for filing comments on the environmental review before the May 29 deadline. Comments can also be submitted via regulations.gov under Docket ID NRC-2024-0046, via email to ClintonEnvironmental@nrc.gov, or via mail to Office of Administration, Mail Stop TWFN-7-A60M, U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Washington, DC 20555-0001.

Information about the license renewal process is available on the NRC website. A copy of the Clinton license renewal application will be available at the Vespasian Warner Public Library, 310 N Quincy St. in Clinton.
