SHUTDGWN TO REPAIR STEAM GENERATOR TUBE LEAK At 9:50 p.m. on April 2, 1988, the licensee began shutting down Unit 1 because of a tube leak in the ID steam generator, and the shutdown was completed at 9:03 a.m. on April 3, 1988. The calculated leakage rate from the reactor cooling system into the secondary system was 330 gallons per day. The license limit for such leaxage is 500 gallons per day. The leakage rate 10 days previously had been 1 gallon per d6y.

The licensee estimates the outage will last for 14 days. Other maintenance and testing work is planned in addition to the investigation and repair of the steam generator tube leakage. The resident inspectors will monitor the outage activities.

The State of Illinois will be notified.

Region III (Chicago) and the resident inspectors had been closely monitoring the increasing steam generator tube leakage prior to the licensee's decision to shut down.
