'he Kewaunee County Sheriff's Department will announce today that a male security officer aployed at the Kewaunee Nuclear Power Station will be charged with the first degree murder

)f a female security officer, also employed at Kewaunee.

'he female guard was found stabbed to death in the home of another female guard on

?ctober 24, 1987. (See PN0-III-87-136)

"he male guard's site access authorization has been suspended since October 24 when he

' ailed to report to work. He is currently in police custody in a Green Bay, Wisconsin, ospital, apparently suffering from self-inflicted wounds.

De licensee is closely monitoring the performance of the Kewaunee guard force and intends

o take a conservative approach to identify any potential impact this event may have on erfonnance.

@gion 111 (Chicago) is monitoring the licensee's course of action. The NRC's Information gsessment Team (NMSS) and the Safeguards Branch (NRR) have been kept informed of this

vent.
