HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION The Kewaunee County Sheriff's Department is investigating the circumstances surrounding the apparent murder of a female security officer employed by Burns, Inc., at Kewaunee. Her body was discovered October 24, 1987 in the home of a second female security officer, who was on duty at the plant at the time of the discovery. (The deceased did not live with the other female guard.) Both women had worked as security guards at Kewaunee about one year.

The cause of the guard's death has not been released. No other details are available at this time. No charges have been filed.

The licensee has withdrawn the second security guard's site access authorization. The l initial review of the past performance records of the two individuals shows an excellent l work record, the licensee said.

There has been some news media interest in the event. A press conference has been tentatively l scheduled by the Sheriff's Department for 3 p.m. today. Region III (Chicago) is monitoring l the licensee's course of action. The NRC's Information Assessment Team (NMSS) and NRR have  ;

been notified. l l

The State of Wisconsin will be notified.  !
