Fermi 2 Nuclear Power Plant Notification of an Unusual Event Newport, MI 48166 Alert Site Area Emergency Docket No. 50-341 General Emergency X Not Applicable Subj::ct: AUTHORIZATION TO INCREASE POWER LEVEL TO 20 PERCENT On September 12, 1986, the Regional Administrator, Region III (Chicago), authorized Fermi 2' to exceed the previous 5 percent power limitation and continue testing activities up to 20 percent power. The authorization was based on the NRC Fermi Restart Staff's assessment that the plant and licensee staff were ready to perform at higher power levels.
Powar escalation is expected this week.
The power increase had previously been recommended on September 10, 1986, by the licensee's Indep:ndent Overview Committee.
The NRC Fermi Restart Staff will continue to monitor the licensee's activities closely.
The State of Michigan will be informed of the power increase authorization.
