'10n May 21, 1987, the licensee shut the unit down from seven percent power tc, repair a valve
-packing which had been leaking in the reactor water cleanup, system. The leakage.-- about
, 2.5 gallons per minute inside the reactor containment -- was detected on May 20, 1987. Once th2 source of the leakage was determined, the valve was opened and reclosed, successfully t:rminating the leak from the valve packing. The licensee elected to shut the plant down to repair' the valve.;and the unit is expected to resume operation on May 26, 1987. \
The licensee declared an Unusual Event under their emergency plan. The unusual event was
.tsrminated when the leakage was stopped.
The resident inspectors have been monitoring the licensee's activities.
This Preliminary Notification is being issued because the shutdown will be greater than two days. This information is current as of 11 a.m., May 22,1987.
