TEMPORARY HALT TO LOW POWER TESTING

, The licensee announced on July 30, 1985, that it did not plan to resume its low power testing activities "until various equipment and procedural difficulties that it has experienced in recent days have been resolved." (

Reference:

PNO-III-66.)

The plant has been shut down since July 23, 1983, for examination and repair of a feedwater pump. Previously, the unit was restricted to 5 per cent power under a Confirmatory Action Letter (CAL), issued July 16, 1985, by Region III (Chicago) as a result of the premature criticality incident which occurred July 2, 1985.

, Region III and the resident inspectors are monitoring the licensee's activities.

l The licensee stated, in its news announcement issued July 30, 1985, that it does not intend to resume testing activities until all problems have been resolved and "the NRC l concurs with the actions taken."

l The State of Michigan will be informed.

! Region III was informed of the licensee's announcement at 4:00 p.m., July 30,1985.
