Tuxedo, New York subject: UPDATE - RADI0 ACTIVE WASTE SHIPMENT REFUSED AT BEATTY, NEVADA Region I personnel requested the licensee to assure that the sinall isolated location under the bed of the trailor which showed a radiation level of 1 R/hr at contact is reduccd to the required less than 200 mr/hr prior to release of the truck from the Joplin, Missouri depot. The licensee indicated that the radiation levels will be reduced to the required levels. Contrary to the information given in PNO-I-79-45A,.

it was determined that only the one drum containing vials of liquid had be,en re-packaged into an oversized drum. The truck is scheduled to leave doplin. Missouri on December 30-31, 1979 and arrive at Tuxedo. New York on January 2,1980. Region I personnel and personnel from the State of New York will observe off-loading of the drums and opening of the questionable drums.

The Sta te of New York has been informed. A press release is not planned by the licensee or NRC at this time.
