By a letter dated February 17, 2022 [Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML22048C222], Holtec International (Holtec) submitted to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) a request to separate the portion implementing Graded Approach (ML19353D337) from the Amendment No. 16 application for the Certificate of Compliance (CoC) No. 1014 for HI-STORM 100 Multipurpose Canister Storage System. The Graded Approach portion is now Amendment No. 19. On March 10, 2023, Holtec provided supplemental information to the application (ML23069A227).
We have completed the acceptance review of your application and determined that it contains sufficient information in scope and depth. Therefore, your application has been accepted for a detailed review. Your application has been assigned Cost Activity Code (CAC)/Enterprise Project Identification Number (EPID) 001028/L-2022-LLA-0028. Please reference this number and Docket Number 72-1014 in any future correspondence associated with this request.
Please note that the NRC staffs review of your submittal may identify issues that could require that you provide additional information. Based on our preliminary evaluation and projection of current review schedules, we anticipate completing our formal review by February 2024. The schedule includes the issuance, if needed, of a request for additional information (RAI) by September 2023, and, provided that we receive your responses to the RAI within 30 days after its issuance, we anticipate issuing the certificate of compliance/safety evaluation report by September 2024. Please note that these dates could change depending on the findings of our review, urgent assignments, or other factors, such as whether your responses to the RAI are or not adequate. The NRC staff estimates that completing the review of your submittal will require approximately 1,550 staff hours. We will promptly communicate significant schedule changes, if any.
