INTRODUCTION This 2020, Environmental Operating Report for the North Anna Power Station is submitted by Virginia Electric and Power Company, as required under Section 5.4.1 of Appendix B, Environmental Protection Plan (EPP).

The objective of the EPP is to verify that the North Anna Power Station is operated in an environmentally acceptable manner, consistent with NRC ' and other federal, state and local requirements as well as to keep the NRC informed of any environmental effects of facility construction or operation.

During 2020, no significant adverse environmental impact occurred as a result of the operation of North Anna Power Station, Units 1 and 2. Aquatic issues are addressed in the licensee's VPDES permit (number VA 0052451) issued by the Virginia State Water Control Board. The VPDES permitting program is administered by the Department of Environmental Quality and the NRC relies on this agency for regulation of matters involving water quality and aquatic biota.

  • Listed below are the summaries and analyses required by Subsection 4.2 of the EPP.

PLANT DESIGN AND OPERATION {SECTION 3.1)

A review of all changes in station design or operation, tests and experiments failed to reveal any potentially, significant, unreviewed, environmental issues.

EROSION CONTROL INSPECTION - SITE (SECTION 4.2.2.1)

Performance of Periodic Test Procedure, 1-PT-9.3, Erosion Control Inspection-Station Site, and 0-PT-75.12: Visual Inspection of the Service Water Reservoir Dike Crest and Toe, were completed by the Civil/Design Engineering Department. Ten (10) areas of concern that needed corrective action were identified during the performance of 1-PT-9.3. There were no areas of concern identified during the performance of 0-PT-75.12.

The areas identified in 1-PT-9.3 were minor erosion issues. Three (3) of the issues were due to animal burrows found at the Service Water Reservoir, Fabric Tank, and ISFSI area. Three (3) of the issues were due to minor drainage issues. They were as follows:

Grass covered storm drain grating north of the old steam generator storage facility, blockage in drainage pipe near the Security Training building, and blockage in drainage pipe near NSS buildings. Four (4) of the issues were minor erosion concerns:

Minor erosion on road leading to . warehouses, gravel erosion in front of Warehouse #9, erosion observed at north laydown yard, and erosion observed at southeast border of the NANIC parking lot.

All issues identified were entered into the station's corrective action system and work orders have been assigned. There were no issues ~observed that adversely impacted site erosion control measures, storm water run-off, or station operation.

Construction activities for the mini-switchyard, east of the main switchyard began in December, 2019 and was completed in November, 2020. All work was performed in accordance with the VAR-10 construction permit. Storm water controls were installed and maintained in accordance with the accompanying storm water pollution prevention plan (SWPPP) . A review of the SWPPP inspections that were performed during the construction project did not reveal any instances of non-compliance to the SWPPP, or issues that were not readily resolved.

EROSION AND SEDIMENT CONTROL PROGRAM CORRIDOR RIGHTS-OF-WAY SECTION 4.2.2.2)

During 2020, all transmission line rights-of-way were patrolled to coordinate brush and tree work needed for maintenance of the lines. This work involved the following:

  • North Anna-to-Gordonsville (Louisa-South Anna) corridor: A contract crew performed all brush and tree work for reliability as needed. All herbicide work was completed by mid-July. No significant erosion was observed.
  • North Anna-to-Morrisville corridor: The patrol revealed that there was no significant tree or brush work needed, and no significant eros{on was observed.
  • North Anna to Ladysmith corridor: The patrol revealed that there was no significant tree or brush work needed, and no significant erosion was observed.
  • North Anna to Midlothian corridor: A contract crew performed all brush and tree work for reliability as needed. All herbicide work was completed by the end of July. No significant erosion was observed.

During all of the above-noted patrols and follow-up observations , no abnormal erosion conditions were observed on any of the above corridors associated with transmission line construction , modification , maintenance activities or the use of herbicides during 2020.

NON-COMPLIANCE (SECTION 5.4.1}

There were no non-complian ces with the Environmenta l Protection

  • Plan during 2020.
