1 This is to. inform you that the Commission affirmed our new Part 62 by a 5 to' O.
vote on Wednesday, November.23, 1988.'.
I have been told by;Zonia Shepard'in i
Rules and Records'that this means Part 62'should be issued in the Federal Register before the end of the year.
Also, you should be advised that as o'f November 23, our~ 1etters requesting.that D0D and. DOE provide assistance in the implementation of Part 62'by' assessing the
' strategic importance of a LLW generator's activities, had been received; Mr.-
Troy Wade (DOE - Assistant Secretary for Defense Programs) and Dr. Robert JBarker (D00 - Assistant Secretary for Atomic Energy)lhave both given their broad approval to the arrangement we proposed; and, 000 and DOE staff have been l
directed-to work out any internal coordination necessary to respond to our request within the next week or two.
We will. keep you informed regarding the progress of these negotiations.
