1 Sixteen (16) copies of the following are transmitted for the Conmittee's information: Letter from Commonwealth Edison Company dated April 11, 1972, reporting that during a routine inspection at Quad Cities Unit #1 seismic restraints and pipe hangers on the residual heat removal system were found to be damaged. SUPPLEMENT No. 154 CATEGORY B l l Quad Cities 1 HMH 6 ACRS Water Hammer June 7, 1972 By letter dated 4/11/72 Coranonwealth Edison reported damage to the RHRS seismic restraints and pipe hangers, attributed to water hausser due to improper venting. Analysis and selected dye checks indicate obe over-stressing and no weld damage. The restraints and hangers were repaired (with the advice of Sargent and Lundy) by GE and the filling and venting procedure was changed to eliminate the water hamer. No ACRS action is recomended. The enclosed material may be discarded after your review. 1 Diesel Failure Br WX dated 4/14/72 Consmonwealth Edison reported the f ailure to start on test of the Unit I diesel because of high crank case pressure. The " swing" diesel was started imediately; Unit I was at hot standby at 910 psig. No other details are available. No ACRS action is recomended.
