19 01 Main Steam Isolation Valve Failed to Close rs.

ACRS Commonwealth Edison Company letter dated November 24. 1972 reports that one main steam isolation valve failed to close on demand.- The trouble was traced to a sticking piston in the pilot valve.. This problem appears to be similar to i

those experienced at Pilgrim (November 29, 1972) and Oyster Creek (December 29, 1972).

ACTION The Regulatory Staff has been asked to discuss the cause and safety significance of these failures. This item will be scheduled for discussion when the Staff indicates it is ready.

ACRS review is recocuended.

The enclosed material should be retained until the recommended ACRS review has been completed.
