- s' OFFICIAL USE ONLY SUPPLEMENT NO. 161 CATEGORY B Dresden Units 2 and 3 January 30, 1973 Quad Cities Units 1 and 2 HE Scram Reactivity Curves DOI Coenonwealth Edison Company letter dated December 18. 1972 ACRS responds to an AEC request to analyze the scram reactivity curves for Dresden Units 2 and 3 and Quad Cities Units 1 and 2.

The limiting scram curve was associated with an end of cycle, full power, all control rods out condition. Apparently Quad Cities 1 and 2 and Dresden 2 cannot operate within the current technical specifications until the end of a cycle.

Apparently Commonwealth Edison Company believes these plants

should not operate beyond 7500 IGD /T. Dresden Unit 3 appears to be in better shape for a number of reasons.

A complete evaluation and report is proposed for March 15, 1973.

No ACRS action is recommended.
