- g BE Turbine Buildinn Flooding Commonwealth Edison Company letter dated June 17, 1972 eenfirus' and elaborates on the turbine building flooding incident that was reported by TWK dated June 10,1972 (see supplement No.154, page 68) and described by the Regulatory Staf f at the July ACRS meeting.
Cassoonwealth Edison plans to install a water tight bulkhead door to the condenser hotwell area and to extend the ventilation systen to preclude flooding. Other actions are planned and a final report will be submitted within 30 days.
No ACKS action is recoenended.

ACRS Resu1 story Staff internal memo dated July 3.1972 is an evaluation of the of facts of the Condensate Pump Room flooding incident. It identifies the major pieces of equipment that became inoperable as a sesult of the flooding and evaluates the consequences of the non availability of that equipment.

HMH Turbine Building Flooding Incident. Interim Report ACRS Commonwealth Edison C===ay letter dated July 10. 1972 transmits an interim report on the Turbine Building basement flooding i
incident and to describe some of the modifications to be made to the condensate pump room as a result of that incident. A final report is expected at the end of July.
The following corrective actions have been taken:
1.
The door to the condenser hotws11 area has been sealed and made water tight, 2.
Two 4' x 4' ventilation openings that connect,the area under i
the condenser with the condensate pump room have been sealed l
off with steel plate.

A level alarm has been installed under the condenser that annunciated in the control room.
I The following are the final cotractive measures planned to pre-i clude circulating water from entering the condensate pump roomst i
1.
Replace the existing sealed door with a water tight bulkhead l
door. This door will be designed to withstand combined seismic and water loads. The delivery schedule for this door is four to six months. The present seal will be maintained until this door is available.

The presently installed ventilation opening serls will be maintained as a permanent design.

A system of level switches will be installed under the condesser L
to indicate and control flooding of the condenser area.
