Dear Sir:
This is to acknowledge the receipt of your letter dated April 16, 1974 1.
In response to your questions, please note that i do not know of any major uncertainties in my area of specialization re-maining to be resolved in the proposed design.
I Jo, however, consider necessary to finalize the clarification of the fol-lowing areas:
(a)
Pipe whip restraint design criteria.
From the informa-tion received from GE and Bechtel, I believe adequate justification for high allowable strains in energy absorbing components exists, however, I would like to hear the applicant presentation on the subject.
(b)
Guard pipe design criteria and methods need to be dis-cussed.
(c)
Three-dimensional ef fects of blowdown ar.alysis have not as yet been fully considered.
(d)
Design loads for platforms above suppression pool water level.
2.
Yes, except far circumferential (3-dimensional) effects.
3 flo recommendation on experiment, suggest making analytical effort to clari fy the matter of 3-dimensional ef fects.

Yes 5.
I think elimination of the complex combustible gas control system in favor of a direct exhaust through suppression l
pool water should be considered.
However, I believe the proposed system will perform adequately as designed.
6.
Hone.
7.
Construction should proceed without waiting for further ex-perimental results.
Very truly yours,
