4.2 When work is performed on energized equipment, such as terminals, cables, busses, or cubicles, or when work is performed on or around batteries, all tools, tool boxes, and other equipment used must be insulated.

4.3 when closing spring operation is desired while breaker is removed, be sure to stay clear of moving parts.

4.4 For CR-3 equipment designated as "QQ' on the safety Listing that requires replacement parts, work shall be handled through CP-113, Handling and Controlling Work Requests and Work Packages.

5.0 EQUIPMENT AND PERSONNEL REQUIRDENTS 5.1 Personnel assigned shall be knowledgeable, experienced, and qualified to perform the specified tasks as determined by the appropriate supervisor.

5.2 Hipot Set.

5.3 Microhmaeter.

5.4 Vacuum Cleaner and Small Brush.

5.5 Flashlight and Assorted Hand Tools.

5.6 Oscillograph.

5.7 3/16, 7/64, 5/32, 9/64, 1/8, and 1/32-in. Rods or Drills.

5.8 Manual Charge Handle.

5.9 Spring Retainer Bracket.

5.10 D.V.M. Fluke (or equivalent).

5.11 1/2-in. Combination Wrench, 3 '8 in. Wrench, 9/16-in.

Combination Wrench, and 1/2-in. Socket.

6.0 REOUIRED INITTAI. CONDITIONS AND PLANT STAIQS 6.1 The equipment to be worked on is to Se isolated and removed from service using an approved Operating procedure and an Equipment Clearance Order per CP-115, In-plant Equipment Clearance and Switching Orders.

  • 7.1.1 circuit nr..her n==aval (Enclosure 3) 7.1.1.1 Open sliding door in front compartment door.

7.1.1.2 Engage racking crank and push racking unlocking lever to left.

7.1.1.3 Rotate racking crank counterclockwise approximately \ turn, then release unlocking lever. Continue cranking counterclock-wise until rack mechanism automatically stops at " Test" i

position.

7.1.1.4 Again push the racking unlocking lever to the lef t and turn the racking crank counterclockwise only until resistance to motion is felt, (approximately 2-3 turns - DO NOT FORCE).

7.1.1.5 Remove the circuit breaker from the compartment by pulling on the handle or by pulling at lower edge of front barrier sheet using breaker removal tool (fifth wheel). -

NOTE: The closing springs, if charged, will automatically discharge when the circuit breaker is withdrawn from the switchboard.

7.1.2.3 Pivot rear brace at rear of each barrier upward and slide the separate barriers forward and away from the circuit breaker.

NOTE: The barriers will not stand unsupported and. must be braced.

7.1.3.2 Remove bolt connecting the front leg of the are chute to the block on the base sheet of the circuit breaker.

HRC 04/30/86 7.1.3.3 Slowly raise the arc chute by hand with two people. It will pivot at its terminal connection.

CAUTION: When performing Step 7.1.3.4 be sure return connection is clear and does not catch on the are chute. Block wheels on 6.9 kV breaker to prevent rolling.

7.1.3.4 Guide the are chute straight out of the pivot guide slot and fingers and remove away from circuit breaker.

NOTE: If only a visual check is to be saIe, each are chute may be tilted back gently, hand held and are chute tilt support bolted into place between are chute leg and block.

7.2.1.2 Close circuit breaker.

7.2.1.3 Check adjustment at 'A' between trip link and biccking lever as follows:

6.9 kV Breaker = 5/32 1 1/32 4.16 kV Breaker = 9/64 - 0 + 1/32 7.2.1.4 If not adjusted properly make adjustment by regulating length of connecting rod.

7.2.1.5 open circuit breaker.

7.2.3 Check cubicle space heaters for proper operation.

7.2.5 Check Breaker contacts 7.2.5.1 Check breaker contacts for excessive pitting.

7.2.5.2 If pitting is excessive dress the contact as follows:

7.2.5.2.1 Cover the puffer nozzle with a cloth.

7 1.0.2.2 Follow the contour of the contacts with a fine file.

NOTE: Do not attempt to eliminate pitting entirely.

7.2.5.2.3 Remove cloth from puffer nozzle.

7.2.5.2 4 Replace contacts if contact material thickness is reduced to 50% of original.

unlocking lever snaps into first position. (nisconnect position).

7.2.9.2.1 Engage manual charge handle with charging lever.

7.2.9.2.2 Pump charging lever until breaker closing springs snap into charge position. Remove handle.

1.2.9.2.3 Insert both tangs of spring retainer bracket into holes of closing spring guides.

7.2.9.2.4 Pull manual close lever to discharge closing springs onto tangs of spring retainer bracket.

NOTE: At this time the contacts will partially close.

7.2.3.2.5 Re-engage manual charge handle with charging lever.

7.2.9.2.6 slowly pump to slow close breaker contacts. Close only to point where the first are contact just touches.

7.2.9.2.7 Check that the other are contacts touch within 1/32".

7.2.9.2.2 Continue slow-close operation to fully close breaker.

7.2.9.2.9 Check contact compression at 'A' (Enclosure 4), between edge of metal stop plate and 'sain contact stop to be 5/32 2 1/32.

7.2.9.2.10' if readings are out of spec. , adjust contacts with adjusting s r.ed .

7.3 N ING m I.UBRTEATION OF 4.16 kV and 6.9 kV SWITCHGEAR 7.3.1 Vacuum the cubicle and check condition of breaker frame sliding ground connection at the breaker and the cubicle.

7.3.2 Clean breaker using a vacuum cleaner and small brush.

7.3.3 Perform any required lubrication on racking mechanism with NO-0X-ID, Grade "A" lubricant.

NOTE: Do not use NO-0X-ID grease on any main and arcing contact surfaces.

7.4.1.2.2 If resistance value still exceeds specified values, readjust the bridge pivot pressure (Enclosure 4).

7.4.2.1 Position arc chute in tilted position, squarely down into its rear pivot quir e slots and fingers, then lower slowly into position.

NOTE: Be sure return connection is clear and does not catch on the are chute.

HKC 04/30/86 7.4.3 Install Internhase Barrier 7.4.3.1 Slide the interphase barriers in place between the lead support soldings and inside of clips on outside molding.

7.4.3.2 Pivot the rear brace downward behind the are chutes.

7.4.3.3 Install arc chute tie bar at upper front on are chute.

7.4.3.4 Lift front sheet in place so it hooks over are chute tie bar.

7.4.3.5 Secure barrier front sheet in place with front sheet screws.

7.5 CIRCUIT BREAKER INSTALLATION (Enclosure 3) 7.5.1 Check metal bump on bottom of cubicle which automatically discharges springs.

7.5.1.1 Engage racking crank and push racking unlocking lever to lett, then rotate racking crank counterclockwise only until resistance to action if felt (DO NOT FORCE).

7.5.1.2 Engage fif th wheel with hole; guide and push circuit breaker into compartment until it stops.

IIOTE: If closing springs were left in charged condition, they will automatically discharge.

7.5.1.3 Rotate racking crank clockwise until racking mechanism automatically stops at ' DISCONNECT" position.

NOTE: Do not rack in breaker if it is tagged.

7.5.~1.4 Push unlocking levt.r to left and' turn racking crank approximately 13 turn clockwise, then release unlocking lever.

7.5.1.5 Continue cranking until. racking mechanism automatically stops at " Test' position.

7.5.1.6 Repeat Steps 7.5.1.4 and 7.5.1.5 until stops at " Connected" l

l CAUTION: Do not attempt to rack any further.
