On December 4, the Coalition mailed each Commissioner a copy of a letter to the North Anna Atomic Safety and Li-censing Board asking for study of REGIONAL EPICENTER MAP--

Period January 21, 1974 through August 1, 1977.

Enclosed with that letter was an obsolete map showin'g 22 micro-earthquakes northwest of the North Anna dam as op-posed to the cluster of 46 micro-earthquakes on the above-mentioned REGIOhAL EPICESTER MAP. Today, please find en-

• closed a detail from the more recent map which shows the cluster of 46 micro-earthquakes at the point where Neuschel's -

Li ncament (renamed Spotsylvania Lineament on the map) inter-sects Lake Anna. vEPCO consultants note yet another conver-gence: "A hypothetical projection of the Stafford Fault Zone southwest from Fredericksburg would intersect in the same general area of the reservoir."

We trust the Commissioners are aware of the work by the United State Geological Survey (USGS) in the past two. years which identified the Stafford Fault Zone, and revised geolog-ical estimates of fault age in the Piedmont, finding structures many years younger than was previously assumed. Also, recent work by the National Science Foundation lends support to Neu-i schel's Lineament as a major regional fault -- now seemingly reactivated by the water of Lake Anna.

In the light of this new and growing body of geological scholarship regarding the Piedmont region, the Coalition is surprised to find the AHC adhering to conclusions reached on Neuschel's Lineament "in the early 1970's" by a "USGS reviewer"

- who wrote that " Details' regarding either local or regional geologic structures...are very poorly known."(W.Dircks-12-6-77)

NAEC urges Commission review of the entire North Anna case.
