SUBJECT:

POSSIBLE RELOCATION OF DESIGN CONTROLLING EARTHQUAKES IN THE EASTERN U.S.

I have included a copy of SECY 82-53 which notifies the Connission of information relating to the possible relocation of design controlling earthquakes in the Eastern U.S. for your attention. The information concerns the USGS position on the zone in which the Charleston 9-11, 1982 earth-quake could reoccur and the implication of the January New Brunswick earthquakes. Dr. Okrent will discuss this in his Sub-committee Report on the activities of the Extreme External Phenomena Subcommittee on Friday afternoon.
