CATAWBA NUCLEAR STATION - INSPECTION OF THE DAM AT THE STANDBY NUCLEAR SERVICE WATER POND (TAC NOS. M72400 AND M72401)
Dear Mr. McCollum:

As discussed with Messrs. Mike Kitlan and Bill Shoemaker of your staff, a team consisting of staff members of the NRC and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) will inspect the dam at the Standby Nuclear Service Water j
Pond on February 26, 1997. This inspection is a routine function of NRC's Dam Safety Program. The purpose of the inspection is to confirm that the structure conforms with the design documents, and that it is capable of t
performing its design functions.
The team leader is Mr. Daniel S. Rom of the NRC's Office of Nuclear Material Safety and Safeguards. Mr. Rom can be reached at 301-415-6704.
He will work out logistic details with Mr. Kitlan. The FERC inspector is Mr. Jason Chen from the regional office in Atlanta, Georgia.
