Dear Mr.' Peterson:

By letter dated December 8,1997, Duke Energy Corporation (DEC) submitted a revision to .

several Catawba Emergency Plan Implementing Procedures (EPIPs). The revised EPIPs,-

RP/fVN5000/02, Enclosure 4.1; RP/0/N5000/03, Enclosure 4.1, p6.ge 2 of 2; RP/0/N5000/04, Enclosure 4.1, page 2 of 2; RP/0/N5000/05, Enclosure 4.1, page 2 of 2 were identified by DEC '

as containing privacy information (i.e., home phone numbers).

Accorcingly, DEC marked the privacy information in its submittai. We have reviewed DEC's

- submittal based on the requiremente and crite.ia of 10 CFR 2.790 and have determined that the

. submitted information contains privacy information. Therefore, the privacy information so identified by DEC will be wituhcid from public disclosure pursuant to 10 CFR 2.790(s)(6) and Section 103(b) of the Atomic Energy Act of 1iv54, as amended.

, Withholding information fron public discic2ure shall not affect the right, if any, of persons ,

properly and directly concemed to inspect the documents. If the need arises, we may send copies of the information to our consuliants working in this area. We will, of course, ensure that 1'

the consultants have signed the appropnate agreements for handling proprietary informat;on.-

If the basis for withholding this information from public inspection should change in the future, E such that the informatie could then be made available for public inspection, you should -
