SUBJECT:
DAILY HIGHLIGHT - TMI-1 Steam Generator Hearing Initial Decision l
The staff today received the ASLB-Initial Decision on Steam Generator Repair dated October 31, 1984. The decision is favorable.
It authorizes issuance of the requested license amendment recognizing the kinetic expansion repair 7
techniques, subject to the conditions specified in the staff's SER, i
NUREG-1019, and Supplement I thereto. The decision adds two conditions which were discussed during the hearing, regarding (1) the installation and i
operability of a redundant secondary side radioactivity (leakage) monitor, and (2) considerations of eddy current examination after 180 days of operation at less than 50% power, should such operation occur.
The amendment package will be revised shortly and should be available for issuance by the end of November.
