SUBJECT:
ONCE THROUGH STEAM GENERATOR (OTSG) EDDY CURRENT INSERVICE INSPECTION The enclosed memorandum from R. R. Keimig is being forwarded to your office for appropriate action in accordance with EDO memorandum of April 13,1982 and because the technique used in examining the transition zone in the TMI-1 heat exchangers is interesting and may have other applications.
Revision of technical specifications (TS) is not recommended for three (1) the problem is,nore of an operating concern than a safety reasons:
concern in that failures of tubes in the transition zone will be leakage that would tend to cause plar.ts.to shut down in accordance with TS limi-tations rather than gross primary to secondary leakage, (2) the introduction of sulfides into the primary system is. unique to TMI, and (3) Information Notice 82-14 has already been issued on the subject.
