S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION Washington, D. C.

20555 Attention:

Mr. J.

R. Miller, Chief Operating Reactor, Branch 3 Gentlemen:

DOCKET NOS. 50-266 AND 50-301 APPENDIX R EXEMPTION REQUESTS POINT BEACH NUCLEAR PLANT UNITS 1 AND 2 RIn our letter dated January 3, 1985, we provided a summary of our discussions with your Staff during a December'13, 1984 meeting at Point Beach Nuclear Plant rega.rding proposed modi-fications to the electrical switchgear room.

That letter also provided the results of a further review of DC control power cable routing to the 4160 volt switchgear which indicated that normal control. power for safeguards buses 1-A05 and 1-A06 was routed

-from a common breaker to the switchgear in a common conduit.

Similarly, alternate control power for these buses was indicated as being routed from a common breaker in a separate common conduit.

The_same arrangement was indicated for_ buses 2-AOS and 2-A06.

We have since-discovered errors in the cable schedule used to perform that evaluation through a comparison with electrical elementary diagrams.

The correct routing of normal and alternate control-power to these buses'is as fol. lows:

Function Route From Cable Spreading Room

'l-A05 normal and From DC breakers 72-1109 and 72-1111, 1-A06 alternate respectively, to switchgear cabinet control power 62 via common conduit.

1-AOS alternate From DC breakers 72-1309 and and 1-A06 normal 72-1311, respectively, to switch-control power gear abinet 62 via commoh conduit.

Denton January 9, 1985 2-A05 normal and From DC breakers 72-1110 and 72-1112, 2-AO6 alternate respectively, to switchgear cabinet control power 71 via common conduit.

2-AOS alternate From DC breakers 72-1310 and 72-1312, and 2-AO6 normal respectively, to switchgear cabinet control power 71 via common conduit.

The routing of control power described above does not change the conclusion in our January'3 letter that no potential exists for fire-induced shorts to-maintain control power to these buses after opening DC breakers in the cable spreading room.
