January 2, 1985 director of Nuclear Reactor Regulation United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission Attn: Mr. Steven A. Varga, Chief Operating Reactors Branch No. 1 Division of Licensing Washington, DC 20555

Reference:

Beaver Valley Power Station, Unit No. 1 Docket No. 50-334, License No. DPR-66 Environmental Qualification of Safety-Related Electrical Equipment Gentlemen:

On November 29, 1984, Duquesne Light Company submitted a report which provided the status of equipment items within the scope of 10 CFR 50.49 and the proposed resolutions for items having environmental qualification deficiencies.

This is to inform you that our actions for resolving the E0 deficiencies for our cold leg safety injection branch line flow transmitters

[FI-SI-961, 962 and 963] (79-01B Tab #15) will differ from what was previously stated.

Due to problems encountered with the qualified Barton transmitters obtained for installation during our current refueling outage we have taken another course of action. We have installed a qualified Rosemount transmitter for [FT-SI-943] which measures the total cold leg injection flow.

Our emergency operating procedures are being revised to refer the operator to the environmentally qualified instrument. We have reviewed this change and found it to be acceptable.

Our EQ Master List will be revised to delete [FT-SI-961, 962,963] and add [FT-SI-943] to reflect this change.

Very truly yours,
