7 e-41 5.0 QUALIFICATION ASSURANCE PROGRAM A program for maintaining the environmental qualification of IEB 79-OlB related components has been developed for use at Beaver Valley Unit 1.

This program encompasses the following areas:

1)

Equipment procured and installed for design changes or plant modifications.

2)

Equipnent replaced or repaired due to equipment failures.

3)

Periodic replacement of equipment which has been identified as having a limited service life.

Presently, these activities are being accomplished as follows:

1)

The procurement of spare parts and the replacement of existing equipment are monitored to assure that parts or equipment pur-chased complies with current environmental qualification requirements.

2)

Supervisors in applicable Station groups have been instructed that a review must be performed, prior to procuring equipment or performing maintenance regarding Class 1E electrical equipment at Beaver Valit y, to determine whether the equipment is included on the BVPS79-01B Master List.

For items on the Master List, Station Engineering will coordinate a review of the procedures or specifications to be used in order to assure that equipment qualification requirements are maintained.

3)

A computeriztd tracking program has been initiated to assure timely replacement or renewal of equipment which has been identified as having a limited service life.

Based on equipment installation dates and recommended upgrading requirements, equipment / parts will be periodically replaced as required to ensure that environmental qualifications are maintained.

While current activities adequately address the issue of qualification assurance, further methods to facilitate the implementation of this program are being considered.

These include:

generating status reports from the tracking computer on a regular basis for staff review; updating purchase specifications and maintenance procedures in advance of need to expedite purchase and maintenance activities; re-establishing re-order points to assure available spare parts; and identifying 79-01B related items on the spare parts computer program. Where feasible, these methods may be used to enhance the overall effectiveness of the qualification assurance program.
