Adams Street Green Bay, Wisconsin 5430S Dear Mr. Giesler; We would like to apologize for having to abruptly cancel the Regulatory Effectiveness Review (RER) scheduled for Kewaunee Huclear Power Plant during the week of September 27 - October 1,1982. We were particularily concerned in light of your extra efforts to accomodate our desire to conduct the review during the month of September. The cancellation was due to the flRC Executive Director for Operations' suspension of the RER program so that it could be reviewed by the Safety / Safeguards Review Comittee, which was recently established to assess the affect of safe-guards regulations on operational safety.
At the request of the Comittee, an RER was conducted during December, 1982 at Salem fluclear Power Station for its review. Recomendations concerning the continuation of the RER program are expected in the Review Comittee's report scheduled to be issued in February,1983.
We would like to thank you for your past cooperation and pending the -
outcome of the Comittee's deliberations, hope ~that you would be willing to reschedule an RER for Kewaunee sometime in the future.
