SUBJECT:
DAILY HIGHLIGHT R. E. GINNA NUCLEAR POWER PLANT Rochester Gas & Electric Corporation (RGLE) has been perfoming inspections of the steam generator tubes and has discovered a rupture in a oreviet. sly
.pluaged_ steam generator tube at its R. E. Ginna Nuclear Po,wer Plant.
The rupture is a fish mouth " opening facing the steam generator wrapper.
It is 1.25 inches long, 3/8 inch at the widest opehngsand begins 3.5 inches above the t.op of the tube sheet. The ruptured tute is a tube that was plugged in January 1976 and is in the B-steam generator hot leg (R39-C69).
During video examinatf or.s as a result of the Janutry 25, 1982, steam

generator tube rupture. G ;s tube was characterized as having outer sur/Arg damage but the damage was not considered significaat enough to require '
removal.
The rupture was found by video inspections being performed daring the pysen_t steam generator inspection outage that RGLE had comm'- rd to
prior to restart'.ng in May.
Eddy current testing during the A ge has, shown no degradation of tubes in the periphery of the steam cenerators.,The video inspection Tiso revealed a small piece of weld rod (about 4 inches long) in each steam generator.
RGU i.nd Westinghouse are evaluatinc the situation over the weekend tc detemine a course of action.
