NOTE FOR:

SUBJECT:
TMI-1 RESTART.'EVIEW STATUS: EMERGENCY FEEDWATER AND HIGH PRESSURE INJECTION FLOW RATES The purpose of this note is to document the review status of each of the subject, areasand our understanding of the phone conversation with Met Ed (C. Smythe) onMg11,1980, relating to each.
Emergency Feedwater Flow--Amendment 13 references a;[pI-siv subnD&W loss of feedwater calculation for justifying adequacy'of 50Cropm EFW flow.
This cal;ulation assumes an anticipatory reactor trip (ART).
In previous discussions with Met Ed (Jan. 18,1980), we expressed concern that the assumption of ART is not conservative for this sizing calculation (since loss of feedwater could occur and not initiate ART), Met Ed agreed to take another look and get back to us on this assumption prior to our initiating further.

inalytical meth.od_b9 Analysis Branch.
High Pressure Injection Flow--The currently proposed preoperational test for verifying the cavitating venturi design does not require verification of flow rates greater than those assumed in the small break LOCA analysis. Met Ed agrced to consider modification of test acceptance criteria and other alternatives for resolution of this open item.
Action for resolving both areas now lies with the licensee.
