STAFF PARTICIPATION IN PUBLIC MEETINGS l

This past Wednesday evening, I had the opportunity to sit on a six-member NRC panel (Dick Vollmer, John Collins, Harley Silver, Gerry Mazetis, Scott Newberry and myself) which listened to public comments on the TMI-l restart submittal.

The attached drawings were presented to the panel at that time.

The audience was composed of several hundred irate and frustrated members of the local comunity. There were several television crews present and also a few people who I thought were genuinely terrified, rather than angry, with the restart proposal.

I thought the meeting was educational.

In fact, I probably learned more at this meeting than at the Met-Ed/NRC meeting which took up most of the morning and afternoon.

I think NRC's management should make a positive effort to involve members of the line organization in such public meetings in the future.
